Ausra Combines CSP with Thermal Storage
The potentially game-changing combination of concentrating solar power with thermal storage is described on the Ausra web site. CSP is an old and proven technology, although Ausra is now using new ways to make it far less capital intensive. But the addition of thermal storage, which is far more efficient than storing electricity, is the key to the revolutionary nature of this development. Ausra’s thermal storage technique will be tested soon. It is not yet proven.

NO MEDIUM HAS BEEN CHOSEN TO STORE THE HIGH PRESSURE 550+ DEGREE STEAM WHICH IS THE BYPRODUCT OF THE FOCUSED SOLAR ENERGY. A SALT OR AN OIL COULD BE AN EFFECTIVE STORAGE MEDIUM.
